about
A LINEAGE I DID NOT CHOOSE
born in morocco. living in eindhoven.
i am amazigh — daughter of two lineages. my father from souss in the south, my mother from the riff in the north. both regions where the women have always known how to read a body, what to brew, when to be still, what to burn.
i did not invent berbersmudge. i inherited a calling.
EL ATTARI
el attari translates as the perfumer, the apothecary, the spice merchant.
the apothecary is in my name. not as metaphor — as lineage. the herbs, the tinctures, the wisdom about plants and the body, these came to me the way a daughter receives her grandmother’s voice. quiet. complete. without asking.
it came altogether that i should do something with my gift.
the ancestral apothecary is that doing. it is the living form of what i inherited.
TWO CURRENTS, ONE WORK
two currents have always moved through me.
the outer — sculpting, glow, the visible craft. beautifying women in a natural way.
the inner — herbs, tinctures, what nature offers. nervous system calm. healing from within.
these were never two businesses. they are one work. the salon is where outer meets inner. the ancestral apothecary is where the inner travels home with you. the embodied face method is the thread that holds them.
DE BELOFTE
schoonheid is geen optreden. het is je zenuwstelsel in rust, je voorouders achter je, en je gezicht zachtjes vastgehouden in je eigen handpalmen.
beauty is not a performance. it is your nervous system at rest, your ancestors behind you, and your face softly held in your own hands.
ROOTED, OPEN
berbersmudge is rooted in amazigh heritage. it is open to the ancestors of every woman who walks through the door.
i draw from my own lineage — the name, the herbs, bakhour, my grandmother’s wisdom. i also draw from other cultures’ ancestral practices — palo santo, sound healing, herbs from elsewhere. i am honest about where things come from.
these can come from my lineage. but overall — the ancestors of all places in the world.
THE WORK IS REMEMBRANCE
the work is not transformation. it is remembrance.
you already have the glow. you already have the safety. you already have the power. you have not lost it — you have forgotten it.
every offering — the salon session, the oil, the ebooks, the words on a screen — exists to help you remember.
there is nothing to do. there is nothing to get to. only the work of coming back to yourself.
with softness,
najat 🪬
